This deserving avian wonder is the Pacific Golden Plover (or Hawai'ian Kolea)—a petite shorebird that is very common in Hawaii and who I first met on the island of Oahu.

Very pretty unusual bird,, we don’t see these here in Virginia. or in Minnesota where I grew up!
My husband tells me that the plover is exquisite in its spring/summer “wardrobe.” He showed me a picture from him field guide (though it wasn’t a very good photo) and it looks quite different. I guess I have to go to Alaska to see it. (Hmmmm, trip in the future?)
